About me
Hi, I'm Rachael! I'm a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner based in Portland. I'm white, queer, and originally from Kentucky. I grew up in a combination of military bases and rural towns, and often felt at odds with the prevailing culture and value systems around me.
My background and experiences shaped a strong focus on community and a deep pull toward connecting with people who may not be well served by dominant narratives. Over time, that pull turned into a path in psychiatry. I received my clinical doctorate in psychiatric mental health from Oregon Health & Sciences University, with much of my clinical training focused on severe, persistent mental illness. I have since worked as the medical provider on a forensic Assertive Community Treatment team for a behavioral health organization in Portland.
I still hold and greatly enjoy that role, and am grateful to also be joining the Crybaby team where I can support people in my very own community and beyond.

How I Work
simplify, demystify, and optimize your care
What is a psychiatric nurse practitioner you ask?
Often abbreviated as PMHNPs, this term applies to nurses who have pursued an advanced degree in psychiatry, granting them the ability to diagnose, assess, and treat psychiatric disorders across the lifespan. In Oregon, PMHNPs hold full prescriptive authority, equal to that of medical doctors (MDs). PMHNP training combines nursing’s holistic, person-centered approach with advanced psychiatric and medical education.
I work with a broad range of mental health conditions, many of which can deeply impact a person’s thought processes, relationships, and everyday functioning. I will focus not only on your symptoms, but also on how factors like trauma, relationships, identity, physical health, housing, community support, and systemic barriers affect your mental wellness.
I take an inquisitive and collaborative approach to understanding those impacts and exploring how we might address them together. While medication can often be a supportive part of that process, I do not view it as the only path toward healing and well-being. At Crybaby, I will work closely with your care team to help support your wellness goals, offering collaborative and integrated care that honors the complexity of your lived experience.
My hope is to simplify, demystify, and optimize your medication regimen while gaining a broader understanding of you and the role medications play in your life. Within the therapeutic relationship, I value authenticity, curiosity, and levity, and strive to foster a space where there is no expectation to “perform” wellness.
