About me

Hi, I'm Hannah!

I am passionate about working with people who are feeling ready to more deeply understand themselves, uncover and heal wounds of all kinds, and transform patterns in their lives to be more supportive and functional. As someone who exists in a plus-size and chronically ill body, disability justice is baked into how I interface with the world and with my clients. I truly believe that therapy is for everyone who wants it or needs it.

I earned my BA in psychology from Portland State University before taking a few year break to “just be a person” for a while before returning to Portland State University to pursue my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I came to counseling not only for the common reasons that someone might become a therapist, but also because I noticed a significant gap in mental health care. So many neurodiverse folks were falling through the gaps, sometimes due to poor past experiences with therapy, feeling anxious about being potentially misunderstood, or any number of other reasons. Do I think I can fully fill that gap by myself? Certainly not, but I am proud to be a neurodivergent counselor and hold myself to a high standard of providing quality care to folks who may have felt wronged by the therapy world in the past.

I am someone who holds both privileged and marginalized identities. I’m a genderqueer lesbian who is AuDHD and manages daily chronic illness. I am white and was raised in a mostly white area, and was not exposed to a lot of diversity as a young person. As such, I welcome discussion and exploration in the therapy space of the ways in which my clients are different from me, just as much as the ways they might be similar to me.

Outside of the therapy space, I am a deeply creative person. I have been sewing and making my own clothes since I was about 12, and I’ve been drawing, painting, and crafting since long before that. I also am a big reader, I love everything from fiction to theory to mythology and everything in between. I also participate in urban foraging, farming, and other local sustainability efforts.

How I Work

Curious, warm, sometimes funny, and firm where it needs to be

Collaboration and exploration is the name of the game for me and how I show up in the therapy space. Therapy is so much more than me talking at you or you talking at me. It is a living, breathing relationship that forms over time and with careful maintenance. To this end, I am dedicated to adjusting my approach with clients as much or as often as is needed for them to feel that they are getting the care and support that fits their needs.

My approach to therapy is curious, warm, sometimes funny, and firm where it needs to be. I like to imagine my work with my clients as me walking beside my client, just a half step behind them. I will always be happy to narrate and add perspective to this “walk” we’re on together, but I will also always empower you to exercise your own autonomy in your life.  I’m here with a helping hand to point out things you may not have noticed about your patterns, to celebrate wins both big and small and to give you a gentle push towards the lasting change you want to make in your life.

Theory-wise, I have a big 3 that I draw from in most of my work with clients. My main theoretical lens comes from Gestalt therapy, IFS or Internal Family Systems and Somatic experiencing.

I look forward to connecting with you and seeing if we’re a good fit!
